San Diego, 01 September 2005 — An SH-60B Seahawk helicopter, assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Four Nine (HSL-49), takes off from Naval Air Station North Island, Calif., to provide support for the relief efforts of those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific is supporting Hurricane Katrina relief efforts by sending eight helicopters and two C-40 Clipper logistics aircraft to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, to support search and rescue and logistics missions in the aftermath of the disaster. The Navy’s involvement in the humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
