Freetown, Sierra Leone 11 April 1996 — A U.S. Air Force Para-rescueman waits with a stretcher as U.S. citizens and others evacuated from Monrovia, Liberia, exit the tail of a U.S. Air Force MH-53 Pave Low helicopter at the airport in Freetown, Sierra Leone. U.S. military forces are evacuating U.S. citizens and citizens of 72 other countries from Liberia at the request of the U.S. ambassador to Liberia. The MH-53 Pave Low and its crew are deployed from the 352nd Special Operations Group, Mildenhall, United Kingdom, to Freetown in support of Operation Assured Response.
